![]() ![]() I figure for $99, we may as well put Windows 7 on the PC. I knew support would be ending soon, but this is pretty ridiculous. This time, after bouncing me through 3 different people, the last one told me that they could do it, but it would cost $99 for premium service, as Windows XP is out of warranty. After which, they verify your key and give you a new key to use in the "Change Product Key" menu below and everything works. I've seen this once or twice before, and know the general process is to call Microsoft, try to activate, then tell them you can't. Then I got the screen that requires you to call in for activation, but there is no installation ID to punch into the telephone. That was kinda weird, but I went with it. When I went to log in to install the drivers (particularly the network one, so I could activate it online) it told me I could not log in without activation. Nothing out of the ordinary, just grabbed the OEM re-installation disc, popped it in and let it go like normal. ![]() I was re-installing Windows XP Pro on a workstation bought from one of our vendors. ![]()
